I received a call from hubby telling me he forgot to get cat food for the mailbox kitties. These are the kitties across from Middendorf's, by the fire station. Of course I jumped in the car, bought food and headed that way. I smushed two snakes on the way there. Not on purpose! They slithered under my tires and before I knew it they were vulture food. Oh well, I fed the cats AND the birds today. When I got to the kitties they all yelled at me until I opened the nice new bag of food. They ate, mama let me pet her, then I went across the street to visit T-Mew (the roof cat) and rest of the crew. Flat licked my toes, Black Girl mewed at me, Katze, Rabbit, Simba, Multi-Kitty and Vickie were all there and happy to be petted.

Trying to keep it light
We knew hurricane Isaac was coming, and from the expected path, I knew it would flood. We have lived here for almost 20 years and every time it has flooded, it's gone down quickly and never gone past the sidewalk. This time was different. The wind blew the lake water in our direction flooding the interstate and the two exits to our town, lovely LaPlace, LA. What a way to spend the anniversary of hurricane Katrina, right? We didn't have water for several days and electricity for a week. Given the choice I'll take water over air conditioning any day, but we have a generator so we didn't have to sweat. Our house stayed an average of about 75 degrees. We have a tree on the lawn, a little roof damage, but we are fine. Our neighbors took in some very nice people who were not so lucky. They had water at least chest high in their homes. We cooked for them, let the kids sleep over here to give them some room and charged their cell phones. I wish we could have done more. Here are some pictures from the event. I don't wish this on anyone.

Bead doggies!
These are some of the bead dogs on display around the city. I usually come across them by surprise, which I love. Some people have told me about the maps that show the locations of each dog, but I find it fun to stumble across them when I walk to the bank or on my lunch walks around the CBD and Warehouse District. These were a project to benefit the LA SPCA. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do. http://la-spca.org/pawsonparade

On this lovely Sunday morning I got up early to feed the feral kittens that live across the street from my hubby's office. They were so thankful, mama even let me pet her. There are about four babies that I have seen and each one is cuter than the next. I don't know if they all have the same mama because two of them are solid black and the others are a tabby/grey stripe color. Next stop was across the street to see hubby's kitties. It's so funny (to me) how they know their names and come when I call. One kitty, Black Girl, loves to talk to me. After that I went to feed the turtles and ducks at Belle Terre Country Club. You'd think there are piranha in that pond the way the turtles eat. After all that fun I got started on dinner and put my chicken in a brine. Later I plan to roast it, we'll see how that turns out. If that were not enough fun for one day we have FOOTBALL on tonight! So happy. I suppose it's time for me to get to the housework. I have wasted enough time on this laptop sitting under my patio watching it rain. Such a lovely, relaxing morning. Catch y'all later!

I love the beach. There is nowhere I'd rather be. Maybe someday, when I'm too old to enjoy it, I'll be able to retire to a beach house. Who am I kidding? I'll never be able to retire. Hell, there will probably be no such thing as social security or medicare in the not too distant future. Well enough of that. Let me just enjoy it while I can. The house we are in is stocked with everything you could want and more. There's a shower outside so you can wash away the sand before coming in to have your afternoon nap. If I stayed outside in the middle of the day I'd be more red than a well-seasoned crawfish. After the nap we stroll the shore looking for treasure. I found a whole sand dollar yesterday, some interesting looking driftwood and many shells. I plan to make a wind chime with my treasures when we get back home to the 'hood. Since I have been up before dawn and enjoyed my Sloppy Bob (sandwich from Dauphin Island BBQ - pulled pork, beans and slaw) I'm getting a little sleepy. Time for the afternoon nap and one last night of crashing waves, sand in my toes and cooking with a view of dolphins.

My birthday 2011
I got all kinds of great presents this year, I guess it was because I told everyone exactly what I wanted! Most of it was ghost hunting equipment. I also got a beautiful pair of earrings and an antique garnet ring. Last night we had dinner at Chateau Du Lac in old Metairie. It was wonderful. I had my first French 75 and it won't be the last. We both had the rich, beef broth-y French Onion soup, then shared the cheese plate and Belgian endive salad. He had the steak and I had the duck. For dessert (we were too full to eat it all) they brought out a ladyfinger/apricot/whipped cream shortcake kinda thing with a candle and sang happy birthday to me. Thank you to my sweetie for the lovely dinner and the surprise champagne.
